Nature metaphors come so readily to mind when listening to
shoegaze—clouds, stars, skies, storms, oceans, whirlwinds,
maelstroms—that it’s easy to believe that, like the weather it evokes,
it just sort of happens. Invest in the right guitar pedals, put the
right breathy spin on your vocals, and bam—instant Loveless,
or close enough to fool a stoned and heartsick teenager. It’s as easy
as walking out your front door and letting the spring air greet you.
For some bands that may well be all there is to it. But song by song, moment by moment, sometimes even note by note, Slowdive do it better.~Pitchfork

Taper's Comments: "The Cellar Door" was a very small, but great room that held about 200 people packed in like sardines. Years later DC's Fire Marshal's forced the club to reduce their capacity to about 125 people. The club tried to continue, but financially couldn't do it. I believe today it houses the office of Cellar Door Productions, which is or was a major booking agency, if they are still around. Brand X were a great Jazz Fusion group started up as a side project with Phil Collins from Genesis, back when they were still a Prog act. Phil generally only recorded with them, and all the shows I saw, he was not present. I think this is by far the best recording I got of them. ~bpthree

The TKK is probably the koolest band ever. Not really heavy nor soft
music. Just despicable in their own way. So sleazy and evil that they're
just fantastic. I can still pull this album out and listen to A Daisy
Chain for Satan and never get tired of it. Not since 1990 has this album
gotten boring or dated. Very dark, gothic-esq, but still includes their
seventies/funk/devil disco feel, which you have to love,
nobody has ever done better, or even came close to their style. "Days
of Swine and Roses," is a classic track, with its quintessential
gothic/dance melodic beat and disturbing lyrics.."Christian Zombie
Vampires".

In the same sort of vein as Lords of Acid, KDFDM, or Crystal Method. Some of their other recordings are also out of print. I will post if requested.

Captain Beefheart
Brown Star Sessions 1972
Studio Session Outtakes @ 320
Info: The 1972 sessions that produced the Spotlight Kid and Clear
Spot LPs marked a new era in the recording career of Captain Beefheart
and The Magic Band. With the Captain appearing to have loosened the
structural death grip he imposed on his musicians since the Trout Mask
Replica LP, the tracks that make up the Brown Star Sessions illustrate
the band exploring some new turf by stretching out the tunes and taking
their polyrhythmic mayhem to new heights. The results are similar in
feel to the officially released Mirror Man Sessions, but more relaxed
and varied in style and instrumentation. A number of the tracks here are
either instrumental or wildly different versions than those that would
appear on Spotlight Kid, Clear Spot and subsequent LPs. Check out the
rubbery "Boogler Risin'", which later became "I'm Gonna Booglarize You
Baby" and the slower than molasses take on "Clear Spot." The fidelity
here is better in some points than others (some sound like studio
masters, others contain a little tape hiss) but this is easy to overlook
when the music is as potent as this stuff. Enjoy a good freak out.
