Captain Beefheart
Brown Star Sessions 1972
Studio Session Outtakes @ 320
Info: The 1972 sessions that produced the Spotlight Kid and Clear
Spot LPs marked a new era in the recording career of Captain Beefheart
and The Magic Band. With the Captain appearing to have loosened the
structural death grip he imposed on his musicians since the Trout Mask
Replica LP, the tracks that make up the Brown Star Sessions illustrate
the band exploring some new turf by stretching out the tunes and taking
their polyrhythmic mayhem to new heights. The results are similar in
feel to the officially released Mirror Man Sessions, but more relaxed
and varied in style and instrumentation. A number of the tracks here are
either instrumental or wildly different versions than those that would
appear on Spotlight Kid, Clear Spot and subsequent LPs. Check out the
rubbery "Boogler Risin'", which later became "I'm Gonna Booglarize You
Baby" and the slower than molasses take on "Clear Spot." The fidelity
here is better in some points than others (some sound like studio
masters, others contain a little tape hiss) but this is easy to overlook
when the music is as potent as this stuff. Enjoy a good freak out.

I received these files from a collector friend in the last couple of days. It sounds to me like Animals has been taken from an improved copy of the source used for the earlier 'Extraction Tapes' vinyl release. Sources appear to have been speed corrected. Unfortunately I don't have artwork, other than that I've found on the web and embedded into the FLACs. Sound is way better than the vinyl transfers I've heard. All in all an amazing release. Beechwoods, 2nd March 2014
Review below from Collector's Music Review: Soon to see release is this Pink Floyd disk “From Abbey Road to Britannia Row”. Subtitled ‘The Extraction tapes’ this CD features that rarest of beasts. Unissued Pink Floyd studio outtakes. Remember the fuss that came around the Beatles ‘John Barrett’ tapes or the ‘Revolution’ leak? This could, subjectively, be Pink Floyd’s answer to that.
Consisting of outtakes collected from both the “Wish You Were Here” and “Animals” albums, the disk is the first time that any of the outtakes have been released in this format. A very exciting time for PF collectors.

If I Could Remember My Name outtakes were usually mixed up with so-called PERRO tapes, The Dorks rehearsals or Mickey's Barn, although basically totally different material were involved. It was usually traded as a single disc, bur here are all IICORMN outtakes that ever circulated in probably the best quality around.

The Rolling Stones
Girls, Pills & Powders The Some Girls Studio Sessions Outtakes Studio soundboard @320
This 5 CD set and the 4 CD'The Complete Woodstock Rehearsals',are my favourite Stones boots. Considering Keith's ongoing legal battles over the Toronto bust with the possibility of a lengthy jail term still very real, this is a remarkable testament to the work put in by the Stones.
The songs presented here extend the jams and feature some great playing from Keith and Ronnie. The music is inspired and grooving throughout.

Television - I Need A New Adventure
Studio Session Outtakes @320 & flac
Includes art
From the Dave Sez music archive: outtakes from Television's second album "Adventure", recorded amidst some acrimony at Bearsville Studios, 1978 @320; the group would disband shortly afterwards. Playing with Patti Smith from 1975 onwards, Television would release the seminal "Marquee Moon" and "Adventure" albums in 1977 and 1978; the group would reform briefly for a further album in 1992. The Dave Sez archive has a massive amount of Television, often live with Patti Smith. The crown jewels are however the studio demos (1975-76) for the first album and the outtakes from the second, an extremely rare recording offered here in mp3 @320 & flac

David Bowie’s divorce from his wife Angela became final on February 8, 1980 and the following week he was in New York starting work on Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), the first album after the “Berlin Triology.” Working with producer Tony Visconti and the Alomar/Davis/Murry backing band, they laid down instrumental tracks for the songs…
Two months later they would reconvene at Good Earth Studios in London to complete the album. Mixing would be finished by April and the album would be released on September 12. The album would reach #1 in the UK and climb as high as #12 in the US. It received rave reviews when first released and has since been used as a benchmark…
Fresh From Divorce collects together relevant documents surrounding the creation of the album including alternate versions and demos. And since this was during Bowie’s longest hiatus from live performance (after the Stage tour in 1978 he wouldn’t tour again until 1983), included are two television appearances which are rare live outings from this period…
The several unreleased tracks have varying degrees of interest. The disco mix of “Ashes To Ashes” is an 11-minute edit of the album track with long instrumental passages in the beginning. These remixes were popular in the late ’70s, seen as a away for rock artists to gain cross-over appeal…
Overall Fresh From Divorce is a strong compilation of tapes from the era. There has been some discussion about more boxsets from EMI similar to this year’s Station To Station, before Bowie’s contract expires in 2012. Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) is one of the titles under discussion and the contents focus upon these particular tracks which makes this a good title to have until more is released.

I was rather interested to discover that vintage video footage of the
Stranglers' infamous 1978 open-air gig in London's Battersea Park,
complete with male and female strippers onstage during Nice 'n' Sleazy,
has been posted on YouTube (in the restricted section which requires
users to log in). It's been there for almost nine months now, so
evidently YouTube are perfectly cool with it, which is reassuringly
non-uptight.
What strikes me most about the video is
how preposterously tame it now looks - almost like a scene out of the
once-outrageous but now rather embarrassing Hair. In fact, it's
not just tame, it's positively cheesy. And yet there's a sort of
innocent charm to it, almost of the girl next door variety, which on the
one hand is faintly endearing but which on the other hand makes it even
harder to get one's head around the fact that way back in '78 this was
considered a "sexy" occurrence.
Personally I've
never quite understood how anyone except a twelve-year-old boy could
possibly get turned on by anything as naff and laboured as striptease.
But this particular bit of videotape certainly stands up as a quaint
social document of what used to be considered outrageous - and
as one of the (female) viewers has commented underneath the video, it's
also good to see a bunch of young ladies whose wazongas haven't been
'enhanced' to bursting point by having unnatural substances shoehorned
into them.
