Stillwater was a Southern rock band that was active in the 1970s and early 1980s. The band was originally formed in 1973 in Warner Robins, Georgia, and went through several lineup changes over the years.
Stillwater released four albums during their career: "Stillwater" in 1977 and "I Reserve The Right!" in 1980 were their best known and they seemed destined for good things but unfortunately their label Capricorn Records declared bankruptcy. The band's music was characterized by their blend of rock, country, and blues influences, and their songs often featured lyrics about Southern life and culture.
Although Stillwater never achieved mainstream success, they were popular in their home state of Georgia and had a dedicated following of fans. After the band broke up in the early 1980s, several of its members went on to pursue other musical projects.
It's worth noting that the name Stillwater has also been used by several other bands, including a progressive rock band from Vermont and a fictional band from the 2000 movie "Almost Famous."
I had the good fortune of meeting them when they played a club in New Orleans during their first tour and became friends with two of their guitarists, Mike Causey and Rob Walker. Any live recordings of them are very rare with only a couple of their songs, their minor hit "Mind Bender" and "Out On A Limb" showing up on a live compilation of southern rock titled "Hotels, Motels and Roadshows" with other bands such as Sea level, The Marshall Tucker Band, Wet Willie and The Allman Brothers and others. If you haven't heard the before than check them out, they are pretty damn good!

'Missing Pieces' picks up where EMI's 'A's & B Sides' left off. After leaving EMI the band signed to Polydor to produce their final album 'Laughing Stock'. This CD is a collection of the A and B-sides of the singles issued during the Polydor era. Also includes the very rare piece called 'Piano', recorded in 1998. ~AMG
