With Mason Casey, there are no Harmonica Blues cliches, just straight, sharp, heavy modern blues.

"I grew up in upstate New York. Worked in tree care business and then as a stone mason for twenty years. All the while practicing and learning the blues harmonica. Got first harmonica as 18th birthday present. A friend gave me the Muddy Waters record " Hard Again " and I got hooked on that funky electric harmonica sound. I saw J.Geils band in concert and said that’s the kind of rockin’ blues I want to play. I was practicing all the time.

I decided at 35 years old to get out of my home town and try to make it as a full time musician. It was very hard my first year and I was homeless for 4 months. I was sleeping in my car and at friend’s houses : it was crazy ! I got a place after a while and started getting some gigs in NYC, at Dan Lynch, Finnian’s Rainbow and Manny’s Car Wash.

Met Popa Chubby at Manny’s. He saw me playing at Finnian’s and he liked my harmonica style and my act. He let me sit in with him sometimes and I asked him if he would produce a demo CD. He did and took it to Philippe Langlois at Dixiefrog and he said "let’s make a CD" and we made "Reefer Smokin’ Man" in 2000.

I live in Holland now and play music all around Europe, and do session work when called, (the latest CD of soul legend Wilson Pickett " It’s Harder Now " and also on Don Covay’s latest CD

Lynwood Slim {August 19, 1953- August 4, 2014} (born Richard Dennis Duran)  was an American blues harmonica player and singer. Slim was best known as a singer in the style of smooth easy jazz/blues as well as his harmonica and flute playing.

Kid Ramos is an American electric blues and blues rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. Ramos has released four solo albums since 1995 on Black Top and Evidence Records. He has worked with James Harman, Roomful of Blues, the Big Rhythm Combo, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Lynwood Slim, The Mannish Boys, Bobby Jones and Los Fabulocos.

 Lester is in fine form and feelin' good from first to last. A scorching version of "Devil's Daughter" opens with LB blowing his face off, as they say. And if you don't get the chills listening to "Black Hearted Woman" then there's no blood in your veins.

Man, you know that ain't right."

A very prophetic song as Lester Butler died of a drug overdose on May 9, 1998

This is Version 1.2 of my collected Jeff Healey broadcasts from the UK in 1989 - 1993. All of the above recorded direct off-air by myself.
Have included two versions of some sessions and concerts for various reasons; in the case of the sessions, they were re-broadcast on different dates, and on different shows,
and my editing at that time was a bit 'severe' and less precise than I do today; the alternative takes are included for everyone to pick and choose their preferred takes. The 1990 concert was recorded to two cassette decks simultaneously from one FM tuner - one cassette with dolby, one without, and one with tape flip, one without; again, the listener can pick whichever they prefer.
 
If anyone supplies additions or updates to this, depending on their scope, I'll issue another Version.

There's apparently a second 1989 session; if anyone can come up with this one to be included in version 2.....

It was quite a night.Monday night in NYC and off to the
Lone Star Cafe to see Buddy Guy. We were only a few feet from
the stage. About 1/2 way through the late show,
Buddy calls out to the bar for a drink and a guy with a big
cowboy hat brings it to the stage. Buddy looks down to
grab it only to see it's Stevie. He calls him up to
finish the set and the rest is history...
