Willie King & The Liberators - Live Roots & Blues 2007

Willie King & The Liberators - Live Roots & Blues Festival
Corte "Le Giare" di Ragazzola, Parma Italy
June 23, 2007
Soundboard @320

Willie King was born in Prairie Point, a community in Noxubee County, Mississippi near the Alabama border. Prior to recording, he worked as a share cropper, moonshine maker and traveling salesman to name but a few of his many occupations. Later he became active with the civil rights movement, which inspired him to write socially conscious blues songs. In 1983 he founded the Rural Members Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the traditional rural skills King had grown up with, which he called 'survival skills,' and helping improve his local community. In 1997, the Rural Members Association started the annual Freedom Creek blues festival, which has since received international recognition. He began recording in 1999 and his 2000 recordings Freedom Creek and I Am The Blues, were the first of several acclaimed albums.

King performed at national and international festivals but mostly played near his home, most notably as a regular at Bettie's Juke joint in Mississippi. He described his music as "struggling blues" because of its focus on the "injustices in life in the rural South".

King died from a heart attack shortly before his 66th birthday, near his home in the rural community of Old Memphis, Alabama, just a few miles from his birthplace.

Not everyone gets Mogwai, but that’s what makes them great. Theirs is a majestic, powerful sound where barely a word is spoken yet it is the antithesis of background music. Album and song titles bemuse, confuse and delight in equal measure and live, they are utterly unstoppable.
Mogwai are capable of tremendous beauty, poignant gloom, and ear-splitting sonic pyrotechnics.

TAD - 8 Way Santa - {Reboot - Out of Print}

FBS Reboot...

TAD - 8 Way Santa
Studio Recordings @320
{Out of Print}

TAD was an American grunge band from Seattle, Washington led by Tad Doyle. Among the first of the many bands which came out of Seattle in the grunge era, Tad was notable for the fact that its music was inspired far more by '70s metal than the punk which influenced many other grunge bands. Although their commercial success was limited, their music is still highly regarded amongst grunge fans.
~More at Wiki

Where does one begin to describe how excellent this album is? Is it the earthy, soulful yelling of the lead singer? The hard-rocking music? The scary slow burn of Candi? The wonderfully haunting 3-D Witch Hunt? The humorous cinematic atmosphere of Jack Pepsi, Delinquent or Trash Truck? The superb guitar and bass playing? The thunderous drumming? The clear, punchy and solid production? Maybe it's just the whole combination and how it goes together so wonderfully.

This is one of THE best of the early-90's grunge albums. It has a bizarre, twisted sense of humor, a perfect balance between the hard rocking and the melodic and the excellent, mountainous vocals of lead singer Tad Doyle. Such a shame that this band never made it big. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates good, unpretentious, humorous, and rugged hard rock. One of the unsung classics of the grunge era.

~Ian Mark Rosen

 Tad Doyle is not someone to fuck with. The second time I saw TAD, 10 minutes into the show he warned some douche bag to stop spitting on him or the guy was going to get his ass beat. 10 seconds later all 300+ lbs. of Tad Doyle jumped off the 5 ft. high stage onto the spitter and promptly smashed the guy's face in. It was great! I meet Tad after the show. A really nice guy and we talked music for about 15 minutes, he's just not someone you want to piss off.

I LOVE this record!!!
