Tar - Toast (1993) {Out of Print}

Tar - Toast (1993)
 Studio recordings
{Out of Print}

The precursor to Tar was a hardcore punk outfit called Blatant Dissent, which formed in DeKalb, Illinois where singer/guitarist John Mohr and drummer Mike Greenlees were attending Northern Illinois University. Joining Mohr and Greenlees in Tar were original bassist Tim Mescher (only until 1991 and who also played for Snailboy), bassist Tom Zaluckyj and guitarist Mark Zablocki. Zaluckyj and Mohr played unique instruments, crafted of aluminum, designed by Ian Schneller of Specimen Products.

The band released albums on the Amphetamine Reptile and Touch and Go Records labels before disbanding in 1995. During its career, the band released a total of four singles, four albums, two mini albums, and contributed songs to six compilations and split singles. The band toured nationally and internationally with bands such as Jawbox, Arcwelder, and the Jesus Lizard. In 1994 the band made the decision to call it quits after releasing one final album. Over and Out was written and recorded over a period of a year and a half, produced by the band and engineered by Steve Albini and Bob Weston, and released in 1995.

Tar reunited for a one-off performance at the PRF BBQ 2012 festival in Chicago, and later in the year, as opening act for Shellac (band) at Lincoln hall in Chicago.

The Stranglers - Live Minneapolis, MN 1981

The Stranglers - Live Sam's
May 20, 1981
Minneapolis, MN
Soundboard Master @flac

*Original Notes*
This is a rare master recording unearthed a couple of years ago which has thus far only been circulated on a very limited level. To celebrate The Stranglers' 40 years in the biz (on tour now) I thought it was time it got a bit more exposure.
The person who kindly allowed me to rip this cannot remember who gave it to them...
This is The Stranglers at their peak. Playing material from The Raven, and The Gospel According To The Meninblack LP they were promoting, the music is interspersed with Hugh Cornwell’s acid wit. Hugh is on top form throughout, riffing after almost every song.
The cassette is a TDK AD90 and the inlay card has notes that read:
“Desk: PM1000 out of subs into active combining network mixed by Kevin Hortmann”

I have ripped this tape clean to digital with no processing at all.
It's a stunning document of a band several decades ahead of their time...
Enjoy!!!

Lineage:
The Stranglers playing>Soundboard>master cassette (played back via Sony TC-WE475 deck)>Terratec Phono PreAmp Studio>Audition CC (rip only)>CDWave>FLAC

Band:
Jet Black - Drums
JJ Burnel – Bass, vocals
Hugh Cornwell – guitar, vocals
Dave Greenfield – Keyboards, vocals

Set List:
01 - Threatened
02 - The Raven
03 - Toiler On The Sea
04 - Just Like Nothing On Earth
05 - Thrown Away
06 - Who Wants The World?
07 - Baroque Bordello
08 - Second Coming
09 - Meninblack
10 - Shah Shah A Go Go
11 - Ice (cut)
12 - Tank (cut)
13 - Nuclear Device
14 - Genetix
15 - A story about Lady Diana

Roxy Music - Live Hammersmith Odeon 1979

Roxy Music  - Live Hammersmith Odeon
May 18, 1979
London, UK
Pre-FM from BBC transcription disc plus bootleg filler.
Very good to excellent radio broadcast @224

Thanks to Doinker for sharing the tracks.
Thanks also to the person for sharing the track, Editions Of You, at Dime (added here from a different torrent).

Doinker noted:
I thought I would do something different, so here is another unreleased BBC show. This one is from Roxy Music’s reunion in 1979. It represents most of the concert they played. None of Roxy’s various fan sites indicate this material was officially released. As the content of the BBC disc varies with respect to the bootleg of the same show, the bootleg was used as filler.
The omission of “Manifesto” from the BBC disc is no coincidence; the band played the opening number severely out of tune. The omission of “A Song For Europe”, “Ladytron”, and the two encores is another matter. Perhaps that had to do with vinyl time constraints or the length of the broadcast.
The BBC disc used is “BBC College Concert”, from a rebroadcast in 1983. The bootleg used is “Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 1979″, but is a different, and better pressing than the “79-045″ version. The matrix number is Zink 1/2.
Both discs were brushed with light click and crackle removal only.
The band is said to be unhappy with the performance of this music, which is why it was never released. But, aside from the jangly opening number, it’s a pretty good show.

Track List:
Track 01. Manifesto (boot)
Track 02. Trash 2:40
Track 03. Out Of The Blue
Track 04. A Song For Europe (boot)
Track 05. Still Falls The Rain
Track 06. Mother Of Pearl
Track 07. Ain’t That So
Track 08. Angel Eyes
Ladytron (missing)
Track 09. In Every Dreamhome A Heartache
Track 10. Casanova
Track 11. Love Is The Drug
Track 12. Re-make/Re-model
Do The Strand (missing)
Track 13. Editions Of You
