Doyle Bramhall II - Live Austin 2002

Rebooted...Again!
Originally posted August 7, 2014 and January 29, 2017

Doyle Bramhall & Smokestack
 Live at Antone's
Austin, TX.
July 15, 2002
Soundboard @256

When Doyle was 16 years old, he toured as second guitarist with Jimmy Vaughan's band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Shortly thereafter he and fellow Texan, Charlie Sexton, co-founded the rock band Arc Angels. Doyle and Charlie enlisted the rhythm section from Stevie Ray Vaughan's backing band, Double Trouble, to complete the lineup. The group enjoyed critical acclaim and commercial success.
Following the release of "Jellycream," Doyle's 1999 RCA debut recording, he received phone calls from both Roger Waters and Eric Clapton. Doyle ended up joining Roger Waters for a summer tour while Clapton, along with fellow blues great B.B. King, chose two of Doyle's songs - "Marry You" and "I Wanna Be" - for their collaborative recording entitled "Riding With The King." Upon completion of the "Riding..." project, Doyle, his wife - Susannah Melvoin, and Clapton co-wrote and performed "Superman Inside" for Clapton's album, "Reptile." Doyle's playing is also heavily featured on the album.

Bramhall has earned considerable respect from a wide array of musicians for his work as a sideman and as a composer. Among artists with whom he has performed, and sometimes recorded, are his father (who passed away in 2011), Eric Clapton, C.C. Adcock, Sheryl Crow, Bettye LaVette, Lisa Marie Presley, and Susan Tedeschi. Bramhall continued to support luminaries throughout the 2000s and 2010s, returning to solo action in 2016 with Rich Man, his first album in 15 years.

Stick-Up - Chemical Reaction (NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE)

Ok, if you are a long, long time fan of our sites you may remember, years ago I did a thing called "Jobe's Mystery Songs" back then I posted 3 songs by a band I couldn't find any information on. Well as of today I've found that band I couldn't identify. Did a Youtube search with what I thought was the title of one of the songs and this came up. This is what I'd been searching for for years. This ain't listed on Discogs, Amazon, AllMusic Guide. Hell it aint even on Bandcamp. I can't even find the label this is on. So any info you can provide would be appreciated. Two of the guys that are in this band (I think) are Thierry Vernhes and Jean Michel Mazella. Alright, so what does the music sound like? How about a better than average garage-bar band doing The Rolling Stones. These guys wear there influences on their sleeves. For instance the songs "Gimmie Some Hit" is "Hot Stuff"  "Love You So Much" is "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" "Are You Ready" is "Till The Next Time We Say Goodby"  If you are so inclined to listen to this I'll let you make the comparisons. As I recall this came out around the time "A Bigger Bang" came out. Anyway I'm glad to have finally solved the mystery, and also to finally have this album. This is much better than The Blushing Brides album. I love what their doing here. No back cover. So the songs are

1.That's Allright

2.Restless Child

3.Die For You

4.Can't Let You Go

5.Country Walk

6.Don't Put The Chill On Me

7.Gimmie Some Hit

Curtis Salgado Live 2010 Edmonton Blues Festival

From Portland Oregon, harmonica player, songwriter and singer

Curtis Salgado blurs the lines between blues and soul music.

When he performs, he draws every drop of emotion out of the music,

as if his life depends on it.

And for Curtis Salgado, it does. Two years ago he was diagnosed with liver cancer and told he had eight

months to live, unless he got a liver transplant which would generate medical bills upwards of half a million dollars. With no health insurance and few funds, the man who is one of America's finest blues/soul singers needed a little help from his friends. When your friends and admirers include the likes of Steve Miller, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt and Taj Mahal, you've got a fighting chance. Numerous benefits were held in multiple cities including a benefit concert featuring Miller, Cray, Taj Mahal, The Phantom Blues Band, Everclear and Little Charlie & The Nightcats.

Curtis got his transplant, though there were a few twists and turns in the road before that happened.

A little less than two years after his initial diagnosis, Curtis was able to record Clean Getaway,

his latest album whose title has an obvious double meaning.

Salgado's set was the Sunday night closer at the 2010 Edmonton Labatt Blues Festival.

For the crowd that night, it wasn't a concert; it was a conversion.

1 Clean Getaway Curtis Salgado (composer) 5:56

2 Who's Lovin You  Robinson (composer) 8:43

3 Nobody But You  unknown (composer) 4:01

4 I Can't Stop Lovin You   Lloyd Jones (composer) 3:20

5 Too Loose  Curtis Salgado (composer) 17:40

6 I'm Gonna Forget About You  Ov Wright (composer) 3:55

7 Born All Over  Johnny Copeland, D. Malone (composers) 6:42

8 Twenty Years of BB King   Curtis Salgado (composer) 5:35

9 Sweet Jesus Budda The Doctor   Mathias Baumann, Curtis Salgado 15:31

A most excellent live soundboard recording!

11 Do You Feel Like We Do

The first thing I want to say about this great sounding set, is that not one performance took place at the California Jam no matter what the title might suggest. That being said, EVERY PERFORMANCE is Soundboard/FM quality, leading me to believe it's a compilation of radio shows. The Who tracks come from one of their King Biscuit Flower Hour appearances. I was told but can't confirm that the Mott The Hoople tracks are from a King Biscut Flower Hour show. I highly recommend this 3CD set, I mean look at the artist and track list, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Robin Trower, Leslie West, Peter Townsend, one thing the title was correct about is the Guitar Factor !

Sweet Pickle Salad

An Excellent And Rare Recording !

The "Sweet Pickle Salad" group/sessions happened after the "Tall" sessions ended and before the "Amorica" session began, about February, 1994 in Los Angeles. The group was made up of most of the folks that played the Foamfoot show: Chris Robinson on vocals, Marc Ford on lead, Andy Sturmer(Jellyfish) on drums, Jimmy Ashurst (Ju Ju Hounds) on bass with the addition of Craig Ross on guitar and Roger Manning (Jellyfish) on keyboards. In articles around that time there were reports that they were going to release it. The style of the music is described by Chris - "The songs sound like a cross between CSNY and Pink Floyd, every song is like 10 minutes long."
