If you have never heard this band then you should definitely check them out, after all it's new and free!

This tape was recorded live and sold at the Five Corners Saloon in the west bank area of Minneapolis, where the band had a  Wednesday night gig for a good while. This is transferred from one of the original tapes that looked like a professionally made dub with photo of an enthusiastic crowd and song list.
The story I heard was that when the bar started running out of tapes they would just copy what they had until one day someone sold the last tape. Apparently the masters are missing too. This transfer that I did was copied and given to some of the band members also as I was told as they didn't have a copy themselves back when they still had a Hoopsnakes webpage. That was about four or five years ago.

Their first album came out in 1987? Which was just called Hoopsnakes and includes a song called Live At The Five and some of the songs played here were redone in the studio for that album.

With the exception of Who Will The Next Fool Be, Think, and Wine Spodee-odee these are excellent Bruce McCabe originals and it's a shame that they didn't reach a wider audience.

These are recordings from the heyday of Underground Radio in San Francisco. This set includes 82 tracks on 6 CDs (most are 80 minute CDs), featuring many live performances, primarily produced and broadcast by radio station KSAN FM. Many of the most popular (and a few lesser known) musicians are represented during the key three years when Bay Area psychadelic music was peaking; from 1966 to 1968. The majority of these recordings came from the Avalon Ballroom and the Fillmore Auditorium, where KSAN often recorded sets and created production reels for local FM transmission. Since the production reels primarily featured edited highlights, theres a consistantly high caliber of performances documented here.

This collection is not, a duplication of the excellent "San Franciscan Nights" compilation. Duplicating that material was, as much as
possible, intentionally avoided. However, there are some exceptions. 9 of
the 82 tracks in this collection were also included on the SFN compilation. These 9 tracks were repeated here because they were either in different or more complete form, as per KSAN production reels, and/or were of improved quality. Here are those details:

CD#2: COUNTRY JOE & THE FISH:
Thought Dream (now part of an expanded Avalon set)

CD#4: CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & THE MAGIC BAND
Old Folks Boogie (now part of expanded Avalon set - was mistitled on SFN as
"Woe Is Uh Me Bop"

CD#4: BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING COMPANY
Bye Bye Baby, Women Is Losers, Call On Me, Ball & Chain (1st 3 are Avalon 67,
not 68 as notated on SFN. Upgraded.)

CD#5: CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL
Suzy Q (Upgraded)

CD#5 SANTANA
Treat->drums->Jingo (Upgraded. These were the two Santana tracks not listed
on the SFN tracklists.)

Other than those 9 exceptions, the 82 tracks on these CDs are all different
recordings than "San Franciscan Nights"

Theres a surprisingly strong continuity when listening to all these bands
together. The only set questioned was the Bo Diddley set. It was decided to include this because unlike many/most of his contemporaries, he wasn't just regurgitating his hits by the mid-1960s. Check out the spacey modal jamming on "Eastern Thang," and the approach of his band and you'll hear how well it fits. (He even has an electric violinist on this 1966 Avalon Ballroom set! If anyone knows or has recollections who backed him around this time, we'd all enjoy hearing about it.) Although the majority of these recordings came from KSAN production reels,
several related non-KSAN recordings are also included. Thanks to Harvey Lubar and the distribution people of San Franciscan Nights.
All the people that helped spread that collection around for free directl inspired the start of this project.

Enjoy or not!

The former Eagle stretches out on his own after the lawsuits. Don was the opening act for the Soundtrack Of The Summer Tour starring Styx & Foreigner. Both Styx & Don Felder's set were recorded for broadcast. Both sets were to be released on DVD, but only the Styx set has been (at least I couldn't find it as a commercial release with a search). Since Don Felder's set was filled with Eagles covers, one wonders if The Eagles blocked the release. Well we all now have a nice soundboard recording of Don Felder doing "Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride)".

As Joe was turning 14 years old, he became the youngest kid in the history of the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation to receive an endorsement. As a result, he received a new Eric Clapton model Stratocaster – Clapton, of course, was one of Joe’s musical heroes. He was also invited to a special tribute concert to Leo Fender, who had just recently died on March 21, 1991. The concert was being held in California, so Joe flew out there for the occasion. One of the bands performing at the Fender tribute show was the Robby Krieger Band – Krieger, of course, was the former guitarist of The Doors. Members of the band included Krieger’s son Waylon – who was not present that day – as well as the son of legendary Allman Brothers Band bass player Berry Oakley, Berry Oakley, Jr. The young Bonamassa was extremely impressed by Oakley, Jr.’s powerful, deep, heavy bass playing. Joe and Premier had already thought about the idea of building a band around Joe as a way to re-market him to the major labels, so Joe approached Oakley, Jr. about playing in a band with him. Not only was Oakley interested, but he suggested his bandmate in the Robby Krieger Band, Waylon Krieger, as a rhythm guitarist. With Krieger on board, the upstart band just needed to find themselves a drummer. Miles Davis had just recently passed away, and Krieger’s agent was aware that Davis’ son, Erin Davis, was a drummer. The idea of a kind of “sons of famous musicians” band began to form, and so they got in touch with Davis. Davis came to a band rehearsal and was impressed by what he heard. He was in. The band recruited another upstate New Yorker – Joe was from Utica - in Lou Segreti to play keyboards, and now they just needed a name. In tribute to the fact that three of the band’s members were the sons of musical icons, the name “Bloodline” was chosen. Thus, Bloodline was born.

Tempest - self titled {1973}

Rebooted...
Originally posted November 18, 2011, Last posted July 27, 2019

Something you may not know existed...
Third time around for this one!

Tempest - self titled -1973
Allan Holdsworth
Studio Recordings @320
Out Of Print

Tempest was a British progressive rock band with core members Jon Hiseman (Colosseum) on drums and Mark Clarke (Colosseum, Uriah Heep) on bass. For the band's first album, the line up was completed by Allan Holdsworth (Soft Machine, Gong, U.K.) on guitar, and Paul Williams on vocals and keyboards (Juicy Lucy and others). Later in Tempest's brief history, Ollie Halsall (Timebox, The Rutles) replaced Holdsworth on guitar and Williams on vocals. The group are referred to as a "minor supergroup" in liner notes.

The band released two albums, Tempest (1973) [originally released as Jon Hiseman's Tempest], and Living In Fear (1974).

*My Comment* Living In Fear which only has Jon Hiseman from the original line up, pretty much sucks dog balls.

U.S. drummer Tony Williams discovered Holdsworth around this time, which led to an invite for the up-and-coming guitarist to replace John McLaughlin in Williams' Lifetime project in 1975, as Holdsworth appeared on the Williams recordings Believe It and Million Dollar Legs. But Holdsworth's union with Williams was a brief one, as the guitarist joined up with French-English prog-rockers Gong (for such albums as 1976's Expresso and Gazeuse, plus 1978's Expresso II), in addition to guesting on recordings by Jean-Luc Ponty, Bill Bruford, Gordon Beck, Jack Bruce, UK, and Soft Machine.

Also in the late '70s, Holdsworth launched a solo career, which over the years has seen the release of 17 albums (a few standouts include 1983's Road Games, 1985's Metal Fatigue, 1994's Hard Hat Area, and 2000's The Sixteen Men of Tain), as the guitarist has been joined by such acclaimed musicians as Paul Williams (a former bandmate of Holdsworth's in Tempest), Gary Husband, Chad Wackerman, Gary Husband, Jimmy Johnson, Steve Hunt, and Alan Pasqua, among others. In the mid-'80s, Holdsworth was one of the first musicians to use a Synthaxe, a guitar that contained a breath controller that proved to be a cross between a synthesizer, guitar, and saxophone (Holdsworth was awarded Best Guitar Synthesist from 1989 through 1994 in (Guitar Player Magazine's Readers' Poll). In the '90s, Holdsworth created his own signature guitar model with the Carvin company.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Denver Coliseum, Denver, CO November 26, 1969

Source: AUD recording
Format: Flac
Lineage: ?>CDR>WAV?Flac
Sound: Fair, but an excellent show for its age!

If you have this show, this version should be a modest upgrade, however it's
still pretty rough. The beginning of the acoustic set is particularly difficult
to hear. There isn't distortion. Rather, it sounds like the taper was
very far away, and using mediocre equipment. There isn't a lot of hiss
that one would expect for a recording this old. I don't think it was traded
much. The original recording was difficult to hear. This one is better, but
not great. Once one gets adjusted to the sound, it's listenable. The only
comparable recording I can think of, in terms of sound, is the LA show in
6/70.

I did a number of things to "improve" the sound. I applied a very small
amount of NR to reduce hiss. I applied EQ to bring out the music as much
as possible and reduce the sound of the hall (which was louder than the
music). I compressed and levelled it because the dynamics were all over
the place and the volume varied wildly.

The reason to download this one regardless of the sound is Crosby's performance
of "Song With No Words (Tree With No Leaves)", Neil's "Expecting To Fly", the
intro jam prior to "Pre-Road Downs", and a 25 minute "Down By The River".
Fortunately, the sound is a little better in these spots.

remaster notes:
this was posted on Dec. 28, 2008 by the chief123 at torrent #229302.
this thing needed MEGA ICPVR (individual clap peak volume reduction) and mike bump
reduction, since there were lots of loud claps and bumps of the mike that
were louder than any music in here. (not any more). the beginning of track 10
had the end of track 9 on it so I've fixed that, and added track times.
I also removed a couple of short gaps (apparently in the source recording)
to make this a seamless, and much smoother listen than it was.
remaster lineage:
flac (wav > flac (sb's aligned) > torrentially yours.

Enjoy or Not!!
