Look what I ran across... An Excellent Moon Martin Concert!
John David "Moon" Martin originally started out in the Rockabilly Music Scene but adapted a touch of that into a Rock/New Wave Style of Music and created some real fine unique tunes!
He's probably best known as the songwriter of Bad Case Of Lovin' You (Doctor, Doctor) made famous by Robert Palmer and Cadillac Walk made famous by Mink DeVille! Oh, but I bet Moon ca$hed $ome $erious check$ from tho$e $ongs!
I just found out that Moon Martin died back in May (Yeah, of This Year - Man, 2020 sure has sucked!) while searchin' for somethin' about him.
This show took place back in 1978 (many Moons ago...) at The Main Point, a club just outside Philadelphia. It may or may not be the full concert 'cause soon as the last song is over - That's All, Folks! But still, who cares - Ya just don't see any of his shows (especially of This Excellent Quality!) floatin' around out there...
Hot Nite In Dallas is a great Rock Song as ALL of them are! And Moon does a Cool Cover of I Saw Her Standing There as well! And the other songs I mentioned earlier, made famous by other artists!

Nice! Been playing in the car a couple of mix CDs made over 10 years ago & there's a good few Moon Martin tracks on them. Great song-smith & a fine player. RIP
ReplyDeleteI Do the Mix CDs for the car, too!
DeleteYeah, you don't see a lot of Moon Martin concerts circulating, so I'm grabbing this while the gettin' is good. Trivia note: the first song was the title cut from Michelle Phillips' lone solo LP, "Victim of Romance."
ReplyDeleteYep. Love Trivia like that!
DeleteI'd Bet Moon made More $$$$ on his songwriting than his Reccords & Concerts...
He probably did, but he had some big hits in Europe. One of them ("Bad News") became a TV theme song. An interviewer once said that Moon was fortunate to have Robert Palmer record his song, and Moon replied that Robert Palmer was just as fortunate to have a hit. I don't think he meant to sound ungrateful, just pointing out that it works both ways for the writer and the performer!
DeleteI found this set on another site (in lower fidelity), so I'm very grateful for the upgrade! It was the same 13 songs. At the time, Moon's band included both Jude Cole and Dana Ferris on guitar, with brothers Dennis Cray on bass and Rick Cray on drums. Thanks, Rocket!
ReplyDeleteThanks, jonder, for the Band Members - They was Good!
DeleteGlad You got an Upgrade out of it!
I'm not worthy! Thank you SIR!
ReplyDeleteYa might not be worthy (Ha Ha!) - But You are Always Welcome, waco!
DeleteHe had a big hit himself in France with the song Bad News. You can find an official live recording Bad News Live made in France. Great great song but he doesn't play it during this concert, what a pity !
ReplyDeleteSeems I remember him releasing a couple Albums with a French Record Company (FNAC?) - Bad News Live! being one of them... He also did a Rockpalast in '81 that's Great!
DeleteFNAC indeed, it's a so called wholesale cultural shops in France. Very nice, the guys are still struggling for believing in cultural expressions against mammoths as Amazon. Anyway...
DeleteAnd for sure the rockpalast one with DVD is just, how d'ya say on the other border of the Atlantic ocean, awesssooooome...
Greeting from Paris under curfew at 9PM
We do say Awesome now and again...Vive La France, FNAC
DeleteYou're what 6 hours ahead of US on the East Coast and it's just after 3pm here so - You best be under roof!
Unfortunately link is dead. Could you maybe re-upload this?
ReplyDelete@Anon...I've emailed the author about this show. Haven't heard back yet.
