ReplyDeleteOkay....this is why I try and check everything: In 1970, KFOG was a "beautiful music" station playing instrumental muzak. They did not start broadcasting rock music until 1982. There is no way they carried a live rock concert. The Faces w/Stewart did play Fillmore West on 1970-10-28, so that part is true. It is POSSIBLE this was broadcast by KSAN-FM, but more likely it was a soundboard recording by the Bill Graham organization.

ReplyDeleteHey, Xray....where would there have been audience interest, though? In 1970, KFOG did not broadcast any rock music, it was stuff like Mantovani, the 101 Strings, easy listening stuff. In 1971 they used KFOG's music as the music for the closed circuit television weather channel in Vacaville which "has it's own local weather gauge telecast with dials indicating temperature, winds, rainfall...and in the background are the soothing sounds of KFOG-FM out of San Francisco." I was here at the time and listened to rock radio, and KFOG was grandpa music at the time. If an AI search says Rod Stewart was on KFOG in 1970, it's scraping up the info from the bootleg CD (there are other boots of this show and none of 'em claim a KFOG connection).
