Time to reggae up our lives thanks to ArchiveVibes with his collection of BBC recordings by Linton Kwesi Johnson, Britain's veteran dub reggae poet who writes and recites in Jamaican patois*. Like pubrockers Dr. Feelgood, LKJ rose in the heat of the punk explosion, sharing its mood if not its style; like the Sex Pistols, his criticism of the UK was uncompromising: "Inglan Is A Bitch". In many ways, he was the counterpart to the "Bard of Salford", punk's very own poet, John Cooper Clarke.

Long associated with top reggae/dub producer and bassist Dennis Bovell and his band, LKJ first came to prominence in 1978 with his debut album "Dread Beat & Blood" under the name Poet and the Roots. That album and the next three - 1979's "Forces Of Victory" and 1980's "Bass Culture" and "LKJ In Dub" are the classic expression of militant black resistance to police oppression in Thatcher's Britain. LKJ is still recording and touring today, but unofficial recordings of his concerts are almost impossible to find - thanks therefore to archivevibes.blogspot.com for preserving this excellent package of vintage LKJ.

The Divine Horsemen were an American punk/roots band founded in 1983 by Chris D. (Desjardins), formerly of L.A. punk rock band the Flesh Eaters. The band developed a distinctive (and at the time, very new) alt country- type sound. They took their name from a voodoo term; a worshiper who is possessed during a ceremony is said to be being ridden by "the divine horsemen". The term was also used as a song title by the Flesh Eaters

Desjardins re-worked several old songs by the Flesh Eaters, notably "Poison Arrow", and exercised his literary side by namechecking Chester Himes, Jim Thompson, Donald Goines, James Ellroy, Harry Crews, Ambrose Bierce and James Joyce amongst others on the track "What Is Red" from the Snake Handler LP.  ~Wiki

Jesus Lizard fans love to swap war stories. They’ll tell you about how bassist David Wm. Sims almost impaled them with his headstock during one of his trademark gyrations, how guitarist Duane Denison stomped on some poor crowd-surfer who launched into his amp, or how vocalist David Yow — having already partially half-exposed his junk roughly a dozen times — grabbed a male fan standing at the back of the stage and smooched him square on the mouth. The latter actually did occur during a 1997 Lawrence, KS, gig I attended; the victim happened to be one of my best friends. Or they might tell you with perverse relish how the Lizard epitomize a rock subgenre known as pigfuck. AllMusic.com helpfully refers to TJL’s sound as “scathing, disembowelling, guitar-driven pseudo-industrial noise.” This kind of sordid myth making isn’t likely to end anytime soon. The fact is that grime and raucousness are entertaining — just ask the publisher of Mötley Crüe bestseller "The Dirt".

I use this album's first song as my ring tone and I swear it scares the shit out of my wife every time Scam Likely calls me. I cannot recommend this enough to you. I love this and all of their other stuff.  Gun's N Roses easy listening,  Metallica Mantovanish,  Korn the Backstreet Boys,  Tool your grandfathers music compared to this. So if you're tired of music that purports to be heavy give this a shot. Front cover only, because I'm sure if I had the rest of the artwork I wouldn't know what it was fucking saying anyway.
