Luxuria was a British pop music band made up of vocalist Howard Devoto (formerly of Buzzcocks and Magazine) and instrumentalist Norman Fisher-Jones, aka "Noko." The band was active in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Devoto and Noko met through Pete Shelley, supposedly bonding over a competition to read Marcel Proust (Noko won). The two recorded six collections of material.
In 1987, they signed to Beggars Banquet and formed Luxuria. In 1988, they released their debut album, Unanswerable Lust. Their second and final album, Beast Box, was released in 1990.

Anyone remember this recording? I had forgotten all about Howard Devoto and The Luxuria project put together by him and former bandmate Noko until digging through my music looking for something else. An excellent recording, stands up really well even 25 years later!

I have the other album, 'Unanswerable Lust' on CD. Luxuria's material stands up really well, and in some ways shows the direction Magazine would have gone in had they remained together. Noko has continued as Devoto's foil over recent years, and ended up replacing the irreplaceable John McGeoch as Magazine guitarist for the 2009 reformation and beyond, as well as on 2011 Magazine album 'No Thyself'. Thanks for the upload - saves me digging around for the CD !

Oh, by the way, there's a live Luxuria album called 'Live 1988' with three Magazine numbers included within the 14 tracks...'The Light Pours Out Of Me', 'Parade' and 'A Song From Under The Floorboards'. That would be nice to get hold of. It's up on spotify (listening to it right now!) along with the other two LPs...probably deezer as well. Must keep an eye open for a copy.
